Basic RACS requirements:
Selection is based on the scoring of the submitted CV and referee reports, together with an assessment made during the interview process.
The interview comprises four panels; each panel generates a score for the attributes being assessed. Each panel also generates a score for “communication skills”; the communication scores of each panel are averaged and used to provide a fifth component that contributes to the overall interview score.
Early SET: 1-2 years during which Early SET requirements are achieved, including the Anatomy and Embryology examination. The first year of the program is structured as a provisional year with some additional assessments and specific supervision to ensure smooth transition into surgical training.
Mid and Senior SET: Mid and Senior SET is considered to be complete when compulsory courses, assessments, examinations and competencies identified in the curriculum are achieved, usually over four (4) years.
Fellowship Requirements
To gain Fellowship in Paediatric Surgery, trainees must undertake a Fellowship Examination comprising three major components:
In addition, trainees must have completed the Paediatric Surgical modules during the Paediatric Surgery component of the training program.
