Clinical immunology and allergy physicians care for patients with a diverse range of disorders of the immune system, including allergic disorders, immune deficiency disorders and autoimmune diseases.

Minimum Time to Completion: 7 years, 8 years if undertaking Joint Immunology/ Immunopathology training (RACP and RCPA accredited)

Eligibility Requirements

RACP Program

Prospective trainees must have:

completed RACP Basic Training, including Written and Clinical Examinations
a current medical registration
been appointed to an appropriate Advanced Training position

Joint RACP and RCPA Program

Meet the requirements above
Be registered with both the RACP and the RCPA
Complete both clinical and laboratory training in more than 1 training setting

Application Process

Applicants must first apply for and be accepted for an Advanced Training Position.

Program Structure

Trainees undergo 36 months of certified training time comprising:

Core training (24 months minimum)
Non-core training (12 months maximum)
Advanced Training Research Project is required as well as a specific Immunology and Allergy project if the Advanced Training Research Project is not specific to immunology and allergy, supervised by an Immunology and Allergy Fellow and completed during training

There is an alternative option for clinical immunology/immunopathology joint training (RACP + RCPA accredited)

Trainees in the joint program undergo 48 months of certified training time compromising:

42 months of core training
- 18 months of core clinical training
- 24 months of core laboratory training
6 months of non-core training
Advanced Training Research Project is required as well as a specific Immunology and Allergy project if the Advanced Training Research Project is not specific to immunology and allergy, supervised by an Immunology and Allergy Fellow and completed during training
RCPA Basic Pathological Sciences Examination
RCPA Part I Examination
RCPA Part II Examination

A variety of other smaller assessments are included within either of these structures.
